Background of the Study
Quality management plays a crucial role in supplier evaluation, ensuring that products and services meet organizational standards and customer expectations. Effective supplier evaluation is vital for building reliable supply chains, minimizing risks, and enhancing operational efficiency (Ogunjobi & Afolayan, 2023). Nestlé Nigeria, a leading food and beverage company, places significant emphasis on quality management in its supplier evaluation processes, particularly in Niger State, where the company sources raw materials and operates production facilities.
Quality management frameworks such as ISO standards, total quality management (TQM), and Six Sigma provide guidelines for evaluating supplier performance and compliance. These frameworks help organizations maintain consistency, reduce defects, and improve overall supply chain reliability (Adeoye et al., 2024). However, implementing quality management in supplier evaluation is often challenging in Nigeria due to factors such as limited supplier compliance, inadequate infrastructure, and regulatory inconsistencies.
This study explores the role of quality management in supplier evaluation at Nestlé Nigeria in Niger State, examining its impact on supply chain performance and identifying challenges and opportunities for improvement.
Statement of the Problem
Supplier evaluation is a critical component of supply chain management, directly influencing product quality, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction. For Nestlé Nigeria, ensuring high standards in supplier evaluation is essential to maintaining its reputation and market leadership. However, challenges such as non-compliance with quality standards, limited access to certified suppliers, and logistical barriers hinder effective supplier evaluation processes in Niger State (Aliyu & Bello, 2023).
While quality management frameworks are widely recognized, their application in supplier evaluation within the Nigerian context is underexplored. This study addresses this gap by appraising the role of quality management in supplier evaluation at Nestlé Nigeria, focusing on its Niger State operations.
